The one major thing to remember is that it is impossible to potty train a child who is not ready. My research and experience tells me that potty training boys comes later in their lives. It is not uncommon for a boy to not be ready to potty train until he is 3 or sometimes even 4 years old. It is important not to try and rush the child.

Choose a potty that sits on the ground. Potty training a boy will be a lot easier if he feels secure. If he can place his feet on the ground, he will feel more secure and at ease on the potty. A big question for many parents is do I try to potty train boys sitting or standing up? The answer is to potty train a boy sitting down. It is hard enough for a grown man to hit the toilet bowl, let alone a little guy who has not learned basic control over his urine stream.

 Girls tend to be ready earlier then boys when it comes to potty training.   It is not uncommon for a little girl to be ready at the age of 2.  Potty training girls are not that much different then potty training a boy.  It is also a good idea to get her a little potty that sits on the ground.  The closer she is to the ground, the more comfortable and less nervous she will be. 

For both genders of toddlers, it is important to make sure they are ready and willing to potty train.  This is not always a foreign concept if they have seen mommy or daddy using the potty.   Make sure they are comfortable on their new little potty.  You might even get on with little characters or that you feel might get them excited.  It is always good to offer your toddler praise when they attempt to potty.  In the beginning, give them a little treat or praise just for sitting on the potty.  Be sure to reward the behavior and the habit.  The actual using of the potty will come eventually, but the first step is getting them comfortable with being on their potty.
